Neville Goddard’s Biography

Neville Goddard’s Biography

Neville Goddard was born on 19 February 1905 in St. Michael, Barbados in the British West Indies, to Joseph Nathaniel Goddard, a merchant, and Wilhelmina Nee Hinkinson. Neville was the fourth child in a family of nine boys and one girl.

In 1922 he came to the United States on board the S.S. Vasari to study drama at the age of seventeen. He became a dancer, and during this time he married his first wife, and they had a son together, named Joseph Neville Goddard.[7] While touring with his dance company in England he developed an interest in metaphysics after striking up a conversation with a Scotsman who lent him a series of books on the powers of the mind. Upon his return to New York he gave up the entertainment industry to devote his full attention to the study of spiritual and mystical matters.

Neville Goddard’s first marriage was short lived, and he remained single for years until in the 1930s he met his second wife, who was a designer.[6] After they married, they had a daughter named Victoria or “Vicky”.[8] In 1943, he was drafted into the U.S. Army at age 38,[9] which he did not want, especially since he felt he was too old to become a soldier and had a wife and daughter at home to take care of. Through the power of imagination, as Neville told it in his March 24, 1972 lecture,[9] he was honorably discharged after just a few weeks of training. One consequence of his brief Army training was that he received full United States citizenship, having been a British citizen up to this point.[9]

Abdullah – Neville Goddard’s Teacher

Goddard’s interest in esoteric interpretations of the Bible deepened after he met Abdullah, an Ethopian Jew who lectured on Esoteric Christianity and taught both Goddard and Joseph Murphy. Neville went to hear him somewhat under protest to satisfy the constant urging of a friend, saying “I recall the first night I met Abdullah. I had purposely delayed going to one of his meetings because a man whose judgement I did not trust had insisted on my attendance. At the end of the meeting, Ab approached me and said: ‘Neville, you are six months late.’ Startled, I questioned how he knew my name, when he said: ‘The brothers told me you would be here six months ago.’ Then he added: ‘I will remain until you have received all that I must give you. Then I will depart.’ He, too, may have longed to go, but he had to wait for me.”[10][11] From this introduction, Neville studied with Abdullah learning Hebrew, the Kabbalah, and the hidden symbolic meaning of Scripture.[12]

Neville Goddard’s Lectures

After traveling extensively throughout the United States, Neville eventually made his home in Los Angeles where, in the 1950s, he gave a series of talks on television and radio, and for many years lectured regularly to capacity audiences at the Wilshire Ebell Theater.[13] In the 1960s and early 1970s, he confined most of his lectures to Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco.

In his early lectures and books Neville dealt solely with what he called The Law, the technique of creating one’s physical reality through imagining. It is this portion of his expression that most closely accords with the teachings of the New Thought movement. In describing The Law, Neville related how he made a sea voyage from New York to see his family in Barbados during the Depression, without any money of his own.[14]

He related how, by the use of imaging power, he was honorably discharged from military service to continue his lectures during World War II.[15] He gave his audiences in San Francisco in the 1950s and 1960s accounts of how others had made use of The Law.[16] He discussed it on television in the Los Angeles area, saying, “Learn how to use your imaginal power, lovingly, on behalf of others, for Man is moving into a world where everything is subject to his imaginal power.”

Top 10 Signs of a Vibrational Shift

The world is changing each and every day and so are we. Many of us are on a path to spiritual awakening and realize that this transformation is certainly not an easy one, but one that is necessary. We see that there much be more to life and to this universe than the smoke and mirrors we are constantly bombarded with and seek to find what Truth really is.

In our quest to spiritual enlightenment we experience many things that can sometimes thrill, confuse or even frustrate us. We wonder what the significance of these things are and may even feel as though we are doing something wrong that could be hindering our progress. I've come to find that any journey we undertake can be likened to climbing a flight of stairs. We make a step in the right direction and then for a while, we stall or seem stagnant. It gets tougher the higher we climb but the point is to never give up. Each step we take comes with its own set of obstacles and it is absolutely important to have faith as you climb that your reward is always with you. Each step brings happiness as well as the opposite. Smiles and cries. Good and bad. Yin and yang. C'est la vie!

If you're noticing some interesting occurrences or feel as though some transformation is taking place, have a look below at these clues that might explain what's happening and confirm that you are heading on the right path:

The Whole World Appears To Be Sleepwalking

Many of the typical things that you used to enjoy "just because" seem to have little to no meaning any longer. You start to realize the brainwashing that's taking place, the propaganda, the gimmicks and all the hype that has to significance to life's real and true purpose. Your perspective begins to become like that of a "grown-up" but it's not that negative way that people think. You're becoming more mature and your realize that you are now starting to see the world with your real eyes.

You Feel More Connected To Other Human-Beings

You are now experiencing more compassion towards your fellow-man and want the best for everyone you come into contact with. Your heart goes out to the beggar on the street and you wish all of a sudden that he  "finds himself".
You see and old lady crossing the red-light and you rush to her aid. You generally want the whole earth to come to their senses and love each other instead of all the chaos and carnage we see, hear and discuss on a regular basis.

Strong Emotions Begin To Spring Forth

Perhaps you've had some issues growing up or have been going through some intense inner struggles for a while and think that since you've been striving to conquer them through inner spritual work, that they should magically disappear and by now, you should able to walk on water. Not the case. The journey to spiritual enlightenment is indeed a life-long one and cannot occur overnight. It is not an easy task to conquer the mind neither the flesh after having been conditioned in a certain way for so long. Anger, sadness, mistrust and many other emotions come to the surface and you work to cleanse yourself from the inside out. Feelings that you may have suppressed for a long time suddenly start awakening in you and must work that much harder to now correct these feelings. The trick is getting to the root of the problem and not just masking the symptoms otherwise you will never fully rid yourself of these feelings.

An Urge To Become Your Authentic Self

There is now an intense desire to find who you really are and to stop conforming to the world's standards or what others want for you. You feel the need to express your own unique individuality in what you do, how you dress and even the way you speak.
Some people may not understand what is driving you to be this way and may just start calling you crazy but you simply don't care what anyone else thinks. You wish to march to the beat of your own drum and feel like there is no other way to live life. Getting to know one's self is the best gift in life and keeps us from falling down the wrong paths that lead to our destruction.

Desire To Change Profession Or New-Found Passions

Many of us struggle our whole lives to find what our true purpose and passions are in life. There are people out there who have been coerced into certain professions simply because of their parents or generational line; knowing full-well that they have no real interest in that particular field. When we think of passions, it is those things that simply ignite your soul when you think about it or do it. It is as if time just flies by and your creative juices just flow and you're a natural at it. When a vibrational shift is taking place, you come to find those things that "fires you up" in that same way. When you've found your true passion/s, everything else just seems boring and useless. You feel like you can be making so much of a difference in the world if only you could be doing what you love. Thing is, you can! Get out there and make it happen. Remember that the universe works with us best when we are true to ourselves.

Feel The Need To Take Better Care of Yourself

There is a pressing urge in your soul to stop falling victim to negative or destructive habits. Since you are feeling more powerful from within and loving yourself more, you no longer wish to be a neither a victim, nor a slave to certain things of this world. The apostle, Paul wrote in scripture that "all things are permissible but that all things are not beneficial." (1 Cor.10:23) He is absolutely right. You can have, be, or do anything you want but that does not mean that its good for you and leads to life. This even includes toxic relationships that serve you no good, hinder your progress or hurts you. You may not have known the dangers before but now suddenly, it is as if a light was shone on every part of your life that needs correcting. When you know better, you do better. My kids used to think I was nuts and being too strict with them when it came to television but now they're beginning to understand why I limit their TV time. If the majority of channels are owned by the same multi-billionaires, then how possible is it that brain-washing must be taking place on a mass scale.

You Want More Time With Yourself

It is difficult at this stage to be around other people constantly. The various energies of others are often a pull to your own energy and this can be quite a drain to you psychically, emotionally and physically. You are now becoming more your own best friend and so you find that time in solitude allows you to think better thoughts, meditate, and discover more of who you really are and what you enjoy doing without all the chatter and input from others. This quiet time can be used to develop more spiritually uplifting habits that bring you into better synchronicity and clears your mind.

You See Signs That You Are More In-Sync

11:11. 1:11. These numbers are becoming my new friends. I see them constantly and never really knew why. Every time I try to even dash to take a picture of it, it goes to 11:12. This signifies that angels are guarding over you and that you are becoming more aligned  and attuned spiritually. In one of his books, Thomas Troward touches on this subject briefly. In numerology, 1 signifies the beginning. Without getting too mathematical here, 11:11 signifies that your consciousness is being cleared, so-to-speak and you are starting from a fresh point in the space-time continuum. I love the thought of angels being at my aid to assist me in every way along this journey.
11:11 is the Universe knocking itself out to give you evidence of your alignment.” ~ Abraham Hicks

"Seeing 11:11 also is a sign of experiencing accelerated soul growth, which means that we may soon be finding ourselves living the life we had previously only thought about. Our inner world is changing and we may find people and events coming unexpectedly into our lives—but at just the right time."

Sometimes you may be thinking of a certain person, song or just said a certain phrase and all of a sudden, you either hear the song playing on the radio, hear the person on TV repeat what you've just said or the person calls your phone. Things like this may startle you at first but not so much anymore because you now know why. You're in-sync baby!

Giving Is More Fun Than Receiving

No longer feeling the need to hoard things, you now want to offer more of your time, belongings and love to help the world. You feel a sense of joy to be able to put a smile on someone else's face for a change instead of doing things for your own gain. The ask, "How can I help?", rather than having a "What's in it for me?" attitude. Ironically, you are now beginning to realize a sense of freedom you gain from sharing with others what others have shared with you and that this is what makes the world go round.

It's Now Or Never

The present moment is always at hand and you see that each moment is precious and can never be replaced. I once heard a saying that two days everyone should take off each week is yesterday and tomorrow. Tomorrow is truly only yesterday's today and you see that the only time that you have to make a difference is at this very moment. You see the scenery, take in the fresh morning air and relish in the now because it is truly all you have.

Our Amazing Power of Thought and Human Imagination

As we become more and more aware we realize that there is the same consciousness in all things, but only to different degrees. Whenever we envision a thing or an event in our mind's eye, we also sense the manner in which the physical world will be affected. Our very own consciousness affects the consciousness of the thing first visualized. It becomes clear then that nothing can externalize itself in our world without first having been conjured up in our minds. Upon realizing this fact, the smallest and even the most trivial of actions will  suddenly have new and much more powerful significance in our daily living.  As simple as making your routine cup of coffee, or clicking the television to the evening news  or even making a phone call, you will now see had to first be pictured in your mind in order for it to be done in real life. Everything ranging from the simplest of tasks to the most astounding feats of mankind; man's mission to the moon, voyaging the high-seas and discovering the earth was round instead of flat, and even "discovering" so-called, 'new worlds' were all  at one time, just figments of our wonderful human imagination.Thoughts.

Apollo 17 moon landing, 1972.

Thought and then materialization is the natural 'cause and effect' of all things in existence. Divine Intelligence, out of which all thought springs, is the true Source. In order for this amazing planet, to be rotating cohesively and intelligently within our galaxy within an immense universe leading to infinity ad-infinitum, it first had to be a thought. A Divine Thought. When we contemplate the width, depth and breadth of this, we see that if our thought even remotely affects things and their outcomes as such, that is must also be possible for us to redirect them toward achieving and maintaining any and every specific goal that can come to mind. Furthermore, that we must then have the same ability to stop focusing our attention upon certain things and responding to every single stimuli being thrown our way by the sensual world that is of little to no benefit to us when it comes to achieving our goals. Society has conditioned us to think invertedly.
The majority of us think in a backwards manner from how we were designed to; and upon discovering the proper way to think, our lives become much more enjoyable, meaningful and we reap the full benefits of all that is promised to us.
This awareness is most liberating as it frees us greatly from the chains that bind us. It is this awareness that helps us become more disciplined, enlightened and therefore, more powerful beings. Consciousness is in and a part of everything because its material form is determined only by the awareness of the thinker. If and when the idea changes, the thing changes also for the idea is the thing itself. Quoting one of my favourite teacher's words, "When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change." In one of Dr. Wayne Dyer's many inspirational books, 'The Power of Intention', he shares this remarkable truth; but it is that much more profound when we study what thought actually is and what effect it has on our physical world.

Our image-making ability or imagination is affected by our knowledge and perception of ourselves. This is precisely why scripture tells us to, "know thyself." This knowing takes on many forms and can also be deemed as the level of faith we have in ourselves and faith in its effectiveness. What occurs unbeknownst to many is that this sense of ability can and never will be adequate when it comes solely from the ego or the surface self. It can do, be, or have all things only when it results from our identification of ourselves with our supreme Source. It is the awakening of the spirit that allows man to visualize clearly. This spiritual connection was responsible for all the many visions and dreams told of throughout history straight to the present day. Spiritually adept teachers, gurus, sages, prophets and apostles and those called "saints" were godly men and so deeply connected to Source that they absolutely knew that there was and is a more superior power to themselves through which they gained all their strength. They gave themselves completely to this Power to be used as instruments or vessels, knowing that the outcome would greatly supersede any attempt of their own.

Before a man even dares to consider himself a saint, he can begin to discipline his mind and to exercise the faith required to believe in the externalization of the things he desires. Jesus, the greatest spiritual teacher and example to man says in  Matthew 17:20  , He replied, "Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you." and Mark 9:23 , Jesus said unto him, "If you can believe, all things are possible to him that believes." Jesus made mention repeatedly as well as performed many acts of wonder that prove that the manifesting of our innermost dreams and desires come by us first accepting that all things come from the Father and also, by our own accepting them as reality in our minds through faith. . Nothing is impossible to the man who, in his mind, believes that nothing is impossible to him. Nick Wallenda, world-class tight-rope walker is an immediate example to me of this. Walking the Grand Canyon back in June of 2013 by tight-rope and leaving the world of viewers with their minds blown as to how much faith a man must have in order to successfully fulfill that tremendous goal.

Nik Wallenda tight-rope walking the Grand Canyon in 2013
When one believes in a thing or in his ability to do a thing, like magic, there is an almost supernatural burst of energy and insight that fills his entire being, making him able to tackle just about anything that comes along and/or tries to get in his way. Nature and the entire universe responds as if with helping hands to get him to achieve his goals. The earth and everything in it was created for man's benefit, expression and enjoyment so that our Creator may ultimately enjoy what He has made through us and so that he may be glorified. This tells us why gratitude is of so much importance but that topic is for another post. It is God or the Universal Subconscious Mind that is the Grand-doer of all things, responding accordingly to the pictures we project onto it with our conscious thoughts. We should then guard our minds and what we allow to enter it. We should also be as clear and specific as possible about our intentions, what we desire and why we do in the first place. It is surely no easy task having been trained (brainwashed) practically since birth into inverted thinking; or being reactive to circumstances and thinking according to what has already taken place instead of being pro-active and thinking of the end we wish to affect. This is the reason why many live in such turmoil and needless suffering throughout life. The Bible says in Matthew 7:14, "Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it." It is in our best interest to change this way of thinking and begin to think first of our intended outcome. In other words, "think from the end." It is this way of thinking that makes us deliberate creators of our lives and the world around us.

Neville Goddard - Your Supreme Dominion

Very powerful audio lecture by Neville Goddard.

READ HERE:
Your Supreme Dominion

What's New? Neville Goodard Lectures.

I can't believe that it's been this long! The post below were actually what drove me back. I have been offline for quite some time and was not sure whether or not I should return to my blog. My inability (thus far) in finding gainful employment was one of the main reasons I was unable to have internet up but God is good and He always makes a way for those who have a will.

The topic of will was what I decided to begin with. Although I don't currently have a whole heap of time to do an extensive post, I will outline what's going on with the below videos that I've posted by Mr. Neville Goddard. Many of you may wonder what in the world I find so interesting about a man who lived in the mid-to-late 1900's and whose name few people know. Those who are in certain fields, have certain interests and have elevated to a certain consciousness would most definitely know who he is. Along the likes of Emmett Fox, Thomas Troward, Napoleon Hill, Ralph Waldo Emerson is Neville Goddard; a New Thought teacher who has seen beyond this physical realm in which we live into the deeper innate Spirit that dwells within.

The time that I have spent away from this little blogging abode has led me to many amazing discoveries within myself and my spirit. It is as if a veil has been removed from my eyes and I can now see clearly into my soul; therefore into the glorious infinity of Spirit itself. All of the years of seeking have led me to these discoveries. One good book by a wonderful author led to the next and to the next until I finally arrive at the best books of them all; The Holy Bible. Within this great and all powerful book lies the secrets and knowledge of life. Many people, just like myself, have taken its stories as literal acts of history that all end with a moral. The mistake I am now seeing in that conception of the Bible is that every single story tells of a psychological drama where each character represents our own individual psyche. The deeper you delve in, the more clearly you see that it's tales and parables describe each one of us and our consciousness. It is amazing the more and more you read because there is no other book on the face of this living earth that compounds every aspect of a man's life and being so completely and yet so subliminally. It is written only as if its writer is God Himself who fashioned each and every one of us to His image and likeness. The Good Book is aptly so good because just as the animals, plants and every other living thing on this earth was put here for our use and benefit, so was the living Word of our Creator.

Besides Thomas Troward and one of his latter students, Genevieve Behrend Mr. Goddard is by far at present my favorite teacher. His understanding of mental science and New Thought concepts is far reaching and his ability to express them for our own understanding is impeccable. These videos do use scripture to support his points but it is more about getting us to understand ourselves. I can tell that he spent many years of his life studying the teachings of Christ and God and has endeavored day-in and day-out to live accordingly. It is my desire to store these series of five (5) lectures in a safe place for further enjoyment as well as to share them with anyone who wishes true enlightenment or a soulful bit of inspiration.

I intend to post regularly and apologize for my long absence. I understand that people get bored and frustrated at inconsistency and in this fast-paced world of technology there's hardly time to wait anymore. My own understanding however, is that one can only do what can be done today and let tomorrow handle itself. When the time is right, it will come. The discipline is important on the one hand but being compelled to please the masses can't be good for the soul either. One must do what is pleasing to himself.  Do enjoy!
